This summer institute, now the Scheidt Family Seminar, is designed for educators in Genocide Studies who are working towards the prevention of mass-violence.

March 2023- Images of Research, Finalist, UMass Amherst
The Images of Research Competition, hosted by the UMass Amherst graduate school, presents graduate students with opportunities to depict their research photographically. Winners are selected by voters at their annual Three-Minute-Thesis competition.

The theme of this two-week recurring summer school–a well-known program in Holocaust Studies– is “The Holocaust and Jewish Civilization.”

The theme of this summer school was “History and Memory of the Holocaust: Comparative Perspectives on Nazi Genocides of Jews and Roma.”

March 2022 “3 Minute Thesis” Winner, UMass Amherst
The Three Minute Thesis competition, held annually by the UMass Amherst Graduate School, prompts graduate students to articulate their research to a crowd of educated non-specialists. Ten finalists then proceed to the final, recorded competition.

May 2021 University of Massachusetts Dissertation Fieldwork Grant Award
This grant permitted me to visit the Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen in order to access the collection of the Bund der „Euthanasie“-Geschädigten und Zwangssterilisierten (BEZ). The archive houses hundreds of letters and testimonies from sterilization survivors.

June 2021 DEFA Summer Institute Scholarship, DEFA Film Library, UMass
This scholarship permitted me to attend the week-long, virtual DEFA Summer Institute on “Authority & Alterity in East German Films.”
July 2021 Auschwitz Jewish Center Fellowship, Museum of Jewish Heritage
Though this fellowship generally entails 3.5 weeks of travel within Poland, including visiting former concentration camps and sites of Jewish life, the in-situ program was substituted in 2021 by a three day virtual seminar due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
May 2020 Zantop Graduate Student Travel Award, Coalition of Women in German
This travel award is designed to sustain research and publication in feminist cultural studies. I used this award to support my archival research at the Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen, accessing materials of the the Bund der ,,Euthanasie’’-Geschädigten und Zwangssterilisierten.

The Yiddish Book Center generously provides scholarships to select applicants for their weekend programs. As such, I was a recipient of their scholarship for their weekend program entitled ‘Yiddish Women Writers.’
Dec 2017 University of Massachusetts Pre-dissertation Research Grant Award
The Pre-Dissertation Research Grant Award provides graduate students with the opportunity to not only determine feasibility of a proposed project, but cultivate the skills necessary to undertake proposed research. As such, this award permitted me to attend the German Script Course at the Moravian Archives in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Here I learned not only how to read and write German script, but honed the skills to decipher script in archival documents–a skill necessary in order to read handwritten testimonies towards the ends of writing my dissertation .
